Over the last 6 months, there has been an increase in demand for Quality Assurance (QA) Software Testers in Malta. These QA and Test skills predominately in demand are for software test automation skills as opposed to manual test roles.

For Software Test Automation jobs, the most predominant skills required are Selenium, Java/C# and SQL. For manual testing roles, the predominant skillset are Postman API testing experience along with ISTQB certification (International Software Testing Qualification Board).

The median annual salary for manual testing roles remained somewhat the same over the last 9 months. Interesting, the salary range for a more junior QA Engineer has increased at the bottom end for those Testers with test automation skills. There are outstanding job opportunities in the Testing area in Malta. A Test Analyst who may have a background in Computer Science or some experience as a software developer is in high demand. Companies in Malta are increasingly looking to add strong and specific testing functions within their software development function. Many organisations are seeing tangible improvements in the efficiency and quality of their development capability.

iGaming and Fintech companies have specifically shown a particular need to hire a QA Tester. Since there is a shortfall between the movement of QA Automation Automation Engineers and the larger amount of jobs available within the market, companies generally exhibited a flexible approach towards training a good manual QA Tester with some exposure to software test automation and to further develop their skills into fully equipped Automation Testers.
